From Kimberly Myers– I would like to donate 2 of my substance use prevention education books I wrote for door prizes. Both stories are beautifully written with explanations and pictures to help a young people understand what happens to the brain when addiction occurs.
What’s the Matter with Mommy is a story about a mom who became addicted to her pain medication after a work injury.
Darren Skipped School… Again, is a story about a middle-aged couple who finally had their miracle baby (Darren) who thrived all through school until his junior year of high school when school stressors lead him down the path of experimenting with drugs.
I am Kimberly Myers. I am a retired law enforcement officer and now I am a substance abuse prevention educator. I work to reduce and deter the use of alcohol, tobacco and other drugs and promote healthy behaviors and lifestyles with prevention education.
Having been in the law enforcement field, you can probably imagine the things I’ve seen on the streets. Many of these service calls were alcohol related or substance misuse or abuse.
As an educator and a person who has seen lives turned upside down due to addiction, I started writing children’s books relating to substance misuse to help children understand that addiction is a disease and also to help those who could use a little help explaining this sensitive subject.
